Ronse Invites Volunteers to Support Local Weddings Amid Department Strain

City's civil affairs department seeks assistance for wedding ceremonies as staffing is impacted by high demand for identification renewals.
RONSE – The city of Ronse is currently seeking volunteers to assist with the organization and execution of local wedding ceremonies.

This initiative is in response to the increased workload experienced by the civil affairs department, which is currently managing a substantial number of identity card and driver's license renewals this year.

Due to this overburdening of staff, the city council has decided to enlist volunteers to help with wedding preparations and ceremonies, which typically fall under the purview of civil affairs personnel.

The weddings are relocated to the auditorium of TIO3, a former municipal hospital, while the Ronse city hall is undergoing renovations.

David Vandekerkhove, the alderman responsible for Civil Affairs, emphasized the necessity of this initiative, clarifying that it is not a cost-saving measure, but rather a means to ensure that residents can still receive the same level of service during this busy period.

Vandekerkhove noted, “In 2025, many driving licenses and identity cards need to be renewed.

Our employees are predominantly occupied with that, making it harder for us to assist with weddings.

However, we still want to provide that service, which is why we are seeking volunteers.”

The role of volunteers will not include officiating the ceremonies; Vandekerkhove confirmed he will continue to oversee that aspect.

Volunteers are expected to perform logistical tasks such as preparing necessary documents, setting up the ceremony room, managing the music, and guiding families to their designated seats.

This call for assistance not only aims to support the events logistically but also offers volunteers an insider's view into the workings of wedding ceremonies.

Each interested individual will undergo a selection process and subsequently receive coaching from registry office staff to ensure that the couples have a memorable experience on their special day.

Individuals interested in volunteering can reach out via telephone at 055 23 27 87 or email burgerstand@ronse.be.

Skills deemed necessary for effective assistance during the weddings include the ability to ensure precise setup of décor and seating according to the couple's vision, multitasking to guarantee readiness before the ceremony, and collaborating with family members and other volunteers.

Additionally, adaptability to address any unforeseen circumstances and problem-solving abilities during the setup process are also important.

As Ronse navigates the challenges posed by the current demands on its civil affairs department, the integration of community volunteers exemplifies a collaborative spirit aimed at maintaining vital public services.
