Urgent Call for Extras for New Historical Series 'Breendonk'

Filmmakers seek slender males to portray prisoners in a World War II setting.
Producers of the upcoming historical fiction series 'Breendonk' are urgently seeking extras, with specific requirements aimed at matching the World War II-era aesthetic of the show.

Kevin Janssens and Filip Lenaerts are leading the project that narrates the story of a young couple whose love is compromised by a failed resistance effort during the conflict.

Filming began in early March and is expected to continue in the coming weeks, with a particular focus on ensuring that the cast accurately reflects the historical context of the narrative.

The series, comprising six episodes, centers around Fort Breendonk, a site where members of the Belgian resistance and Jewish individuals were imprisoned during the Second World War.

Many detainees faced deportation to concentration camps.

Production employee Matthias De Witte emphasized the critical nature of casting extras who can portray the individuals imprisoned in this historical setting, saying, "We are looking for a lot of young men who are thin and willing to shave their hair short."

De Witte noted that the production is aiming to recruit 60 extras to play the roles of prisoners at the Fort of Liezele before a deadline of June 17. The specifics of this casting call target slender males, particularly those aged between 16 and 95, with light or white skin tones.

"We are specifically looking for athletic people who are fit, but not bodybuilder muscular.

The thinner, the better," De Witte remarked, pointing out the challenges of recruitment during the current exam period, which may hinder availability.

The production promises a unique experience for those involved, as extras will have the opportunity to engage with the historical narrative of Fort Breendonk firsthand, enriching their understanding of the era's challenges.

Historical accuracy is essential in portraying the young soldiers or detainees of World War II. The appearance of these individuals typically involved short haircuts, a reflection of military and prison standards of the time.

Authenticity in uniforms and clothing is also emphasized, as historical performances strive to depict the grim realities faced by soldiers and inmates, often featuring weathered, faded, or soiled garments.

Prospective participants wishing to apply for these roles can do so via the XtraZ website.
