A new delivery of heavy munitions from the United States arrives in Israel after President Trump's reversal of a Biden-era export block.
JERUSALEM – Israel's Defense Ministry announced the arrival of a shipment of heavy MK-84 bombs, a 2,000-pound unguided munitions type, from the United States.
This delivery follows a policy change by U.S. President
Donald Trump, who lifted an export ban imposed by the previous administration under President
Joe Biden.
The Biden administration had previously withheld these munitions due to concerns regarding their potential impact on densely populated areas in the Gaza Strip.
Defense Minister Israel Katz characterized the shipment as a significant augmentation for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), stating that it highlights the close relationship between Israel and the United States.
Katz described the MK-84 bombs as a valuable asset for the Air Force.
This shipment coincides with heightened tensions surrounding a fragile cease-fire agreement in Gaza, recently reached amid ongoing conflict.
Both sides have accused each other of violating the terms of the cease-fire, which was established to facilitate the exchange of hostages and prisoners.
Since the onset of the conflict, the U.S. has committed substantial aid to Israel, amounting to billions of dollars.
For context, following the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas militants, the U.S. supplied thousands of weapons to Israel, including 14,000 MK-84 bombs, 3,000 Hellfire missiles, 6,500 500-pound bombs, 2,600 small-diameter bombs, and 1,000 bunker-buster bombs, among others.
The recent shipment indicates ongoing military support from the U.S. and suggests a reinforcement of Israel’s military capabilities during this protracted conflict.
As this situation develops, it remains essential to monitor the implications of military aid and international relations in the region.
