Over 8,500 participants engage in discussions and activities around democracy and critical issues facing the EU.
On June 13 and 14, 2025, the European Parliament will host EYE2025 (European Youth Event) in Strasbourg, gathering approximately 8,500 individuals aged 16 to 30 from across the globe.
This event aims to empower young people and facilitate discussions on the future of Europe.
The event will be inaugurated by Parliament Vice-president Sabine Verheyen, a member of the European People's Party (EPP, DE), at 10:00 on June 13. The agenda includes a session dedicated to discussions on the next long-term EU budget, featuring Vice-president Nicolae Ştefănuță from the Greens/EFA (RO) at 15:00 on June 14, followed by a closing session with Vice-president Pina Picierno of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D, IT) at 16:45.
EYE2025 will comprise various panel discussions involving Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), EU decision-makers, experts, and activists.
Topics slated for debate include climate justice, the EU's forthcoming long-term budget, media freedom, and youth skills for the future.
Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture, and Sport, Glenn Micallef, will lead a Youth Policy Dialogue at 11:00 on June 13, additionally participating in a discussion focused on young people's mental health later that day.
The Executive Vice-President of the Commission, Henna Virkkunen, will engage in a conversation regarding the intersection of technology and democracy at 15:00 on the same day.
Notable guest speakers include Daria Navalnya, a democracy activist, Chief Tau Metuktire, a leader of the Kayapo Amazonian tribe, and the Mayor of Strasbourg, Jeanne Barseghian.
The programme for EYE2025 features over 450 activities, including workshops on disinformation, housing, and migration, as well as artistic performances, storytelling workshops, quizzes, and concerts.
All sessions conducted in the hemicycle will be streamed live via the EYE2025
Facebook page and the European Parliament's Multimedia Centre.
Additionally, there will be a press briefing held by Vice-president Verheyen on media freedom in the EU at 16:30 on June 13 in the Daphne Caruana Galizia press conference room.
As discussions continue around the future direction of the EU, EYE2025 serves as a platform for youth engagement and the expression of democratic ideals within the institution.
Complementing this event, pro-European parties are moving to counteract the influence of far-right narratives in the biotech sector, seeking to replace a report they claim neglects scientific rigor, signaling ongoing tensions in European political discourse.
