European Youth Event 2025 to Attract Thousands in Strasbourg

Over 8,500 young participants to engage in discussions on Europe's future in a two-day event.
An estimated 8,500 individuals aged 16 to 30 from various global locations are set to converge at the European Youth Event (EYE2025) in Strasbourg, starting on June 13, 2025. The event, organized by the European Parliament, aims to facilitate discussions and activities centered on the future of Europe.

The inaugural session will be led by EU Parliament Vice-president Sabine Verheyen (EPP, DE) at 10:00 on Friday.

Nicolae Stefanuta (Greens/EFA, RO), another Vice-president of the European Parliament, will participate in a crucial session on the EU’s upcoming long-term budget on Saturday at 15:00. The event will conclude with a closing session featuring Vice-president Pina Picierno (S&D, IT) at 16:45 on the same day.

During the two days, participants will engage in panel discussions with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), EU decision-makers, and experts on a wide array of pressing topics, including climate justice, skills for the future, and freedom of speech.

EU Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, Glenn Micallef, will spearhead a Youth Policy Dialogue on Friday at 11:00 and later join a panel addressing young people’s mental health in the afternoon.

Additionally, Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, will contribute to a session on technology's role in strengthening democracy at 15:00 on Friday.

Notable speakers include Daria Navalnya, a democracy activist, Chief Tau Metuktire, a leader from the Kayapo tribe of the Amazon, and Strasbourg’s Mayor, Jeanne Barseghian.

A diverse program of workshops covering themes such as disinformation, housing, and migration will also be available to attendees.

In addition to discussions and workshops, the event features over 450 activities, including quizzes, tours, artistic performances, and storytelling workshops, designed to engage and inspire the participating youth in the context of Europe’s future.

Simultaneously, the city of Bruges has received approval for an environmental permit to construct a new fire station at the Waggeltwater Industrial Estate, with construction set to begin in September 2025. The new facility will replace two existing fire stations and is strategically located for enhanced emergency response times.

Mayor Dirk De fauw (CD&V) remarked on the advantageous placement of the new fire station, emphasizing that it will establish a direct connection to Bevrijdingslaan, facilitating quicker access to both the city center and surrounding areas.

The current main fire station is suboptimally located, and the new structure, designed with operational efficiency in mind, is expected to improve response times significantly.

The project, valued at approximately 30 million euros, aims to be completed within three years, consolidating administrative services currently located in Oostkamp into this central hub for Emergency Zone 1.
