GENK – On March 11, 2025, local law enforcement in Genk apprehended a 41-year-old male suspect following a high-speed police pursuit.

The individual was wanted in connection to a violent carjacking incident that occurred on February 28, 2025, in Schurfstraat, where a woman was threatened at gunpoint and forced to relinquish her vehicle.

The stolen car was identified by police on March 11, leading officers to attempt to halt the vehicle's driver.

In defiance, the suspect accelerated through the city center, colliding with two parked cars during the chase, resulting in minor injuries to a female driver involved in one of the accidents.

The pursuit saw the suspect maneuvering at dangerously high speeds through the streets of Genk as police units endeavored to bring the situation under control.

The chase concluded on Grotestraat, where heavy traffic impeded the suspect’s escape route, enabling police to apprehend him promptly.

The arrested man resides in Genk and was subsequently taken into custody.

In the aftermath, a judge ruled to keep the suspect detained while further investigations are conducted.

Law enforcement agencies continue to gather evidence pertinent to the case, aiming to pursue appropriate charges against the suspect for the violent carjacking and related offenses.

The carjacking incident on February 28 involved a female victim who, upon entering her vehicle and preparing to depart, was accosted by an unidentified male.

Armed with a weapon, the suspect threatened her into compliance, instructing her to drive to a nearby location.

Fearing for her safety, the victim complied, but once they arrived at the designated spot, the perpetrator forcibly removed her from the vehicle before fleeing the scene in the stolen car.

The victim promptly reported the event to law enforcement, initiating an official investigation led by the Limburg Public Prosecution Service alongside the CARMA police zone.

Officials characterized the apprehension of the suspect as a significant development in the ongoing investigation, indicating a swift response to violent crime in the region.
